The combination of the ascendant ruler in the twelve signs can be very useful in determining other factors from other aspects. Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Aries. Is not too well placed here with Virgo rising. It brings discord into the character. It is not easy to harness the earth and fire sign for these opposing principles. The ambitious side of the nature will be strengthened but there will be times when intolerance will be expressed, when irritation will be felt and temper allowed to get out or hand, as a result of others expressing their views and line of action. It can also increase self-opinion in a manner that will not always be pleasant.

There will be more forcefulness of thought that will strengthen the mental ambition. It will add some idealism to the person without interfering with the practicality of a Virgo ascendant. In some respects it will tone down the inclination towards criticism. A strengthening of the spirit of enterprise and initiative is shown and, in some directions, there will be a greater readiness to take worthwhile risks. There is just a need to control, impulsive “spur of the moment” actions. Also, at one time the expression will be practical and forceful, and at other times it will be restless.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Taurus. When the Sign Virgo rises, it is a much more favourable combination than when Gemini is rising. hence, there will be a more harmonious blending of thought with action. Thought and activity will be better regulated and the determinative side of the nature will come more fully into play. Interests of an intellectual and artistic nature will be more easily blended with those of a business, commercial and financial nature. There will still be a degree of obstinacy but it will be expressed in a more practical and refined manner.

This will enhance the power of concentration and give ability for the creation of objectives of a positive nature. It shows that once the mind has been made up in a particular direction there will be an adherence to the decision reached; the capacity to formulate plans in as practical a manner as possible, will be enhanced. The power of perception and discrimination given by Virgo will assist in the making of mental decisions associated with finance and kindred affairs. Seldom will hurried decisions be made but time.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Gemini. With Virgo Rising Mercury is again well placed for, in this case, it will strengthen the power of expression and will lessen some of the reticence usually given by the Earthy nature of Virgo. It brings more variety into the life and gives capacity for the holding of executive positions in various organisations. There will be more mental buoyancy than is usually associated with Virgo but, sometimes, an inner clash will occur between the ideal and the practical. If this becomes too pronounced it will, temporarily, interfere with progress until a mental balance is once more attained.

This configuration is one which will strengthen the powers of observation and aid the expression of personal thoughts and ideas. In a less critical manner however, than is usual with Virgo. In many respects it will broaden the outlook on life and will bring more variety into life's various activities. This, in itself, will increase the general knowledge and the understanding of people and affairs. Despite this and, as a direct result of the natural practicality and versatility, it will not be easy to obtain the spontaneous sympathy of others when difficult periods are encountered.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Cancer. Is more favourably placed in Cancer. Virgo is Earth and Cancer is water and these elements unite more easily than Earth and Air. Whilst susceptibility to the sway of the emotions over the thoughts is very marked, the practicality and perception of Virgo gives capacity for a more constructive handling of affairs than when the restless Sign of Gemini rises. It is, also, a better position for home affairs. This position will again considerably increase the natural flow of thought and inspiration. It will give a very good memory with a retentive power of thought rendering it relatively easy for past events and activities to be recalled.

            Some degree of mental emotional morbidness will be felt when affairs go astray, and there will always be a need for seeing that the reasoning powers are not superseded by the strength of the feelings and emotions. The judgment can be swayed by the pull of interests of a domestic and family nature but the natural power of perception will invariably give a warning when others in the environment are trying to take an unfair advantage. Nevertheless there will usually be quite a fair degree of harmony between domestic and business affairs.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Leo. Mercury is not so well placed in Leo when Virgo is rising for arbitrary vibrations will be at work. Although ambition, enterprise and energy are clearly denoted, and progress can be brought about in business, social and public spheres of life, not always will it be easy to make allowances for the lesser capacity of others. Hence, impatience, irritability and temper can be expressed in a way which will disturb relationships, friendships and external associations. It accentuates the natural degree of pride but warns against becoming dogmatic or swollen‑headed, especially when affairs are going well.

To give way to such inclinations will bring a danger of making mistakes and errors of judgment which will be difficult to remedy, despite the natural resourcefulness of thought and action. This could lead, ultimately, to setbacks and, even, to a downfall. Considerable ability for acting is denoted, whilst the educational side of life will make a strong appeal, particularly where it is associated with technical and industry. At times, there will be tendencies to be irritable and impulsive.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Virgo. Mercury is naturally well placed in Virgo as this is the Sign of its Exaltation as well as being one of its own Signs. The Earthy nature of Virgo will aid the natural practicality of thought and action and, when Virgo is rising, the power of Mercury as ruler will be expressed very fully along channels of a commercial as well as of an intellectual nature. Thus, the capacity for holding responsible positions of a professional or business nature will be very marked. Personal planning and diligence will bring progress leading to personal and financial benefit.

It signifies that knowledge and under‑ standing will be acquired readily and quickly. The capacity for study is exceptionally good, there being an 'inquiring' type of mind which will intensify the desire to seek knowledge and to obtain an understanding of affairs and people. On the other hand despite the naturally favourable influence of this position, there will always be a need for care in expressing criticism and in finding fault with other people as, in many instances, they will not have the same degree of mental alertness or the same quickness of mental assimilation. Giving way to impatience will only cause complications and a holding up of the chief interests at stake.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Libra. This position is very good. Libra is an Airy Sign, harmonising with the volatile nature of Mercury, while the companionable and social qualities of Libra will soften the harder criticism given by Virgo as the rising Sign. There will be more tact in the presenting of views and opinions and in the making of suggestions, coupled with a strengthening of the natural Virgo capacity for obtaining practical results. The willing co‑operation of others will be used constructively.

When Mercury occupies this position it will help to tone down the normal Virgo tendency towards being critical. On the other hand the power of comparison will be strengthened and there will be much greater capacity for weighing up and more accurately assessing the various factors which influence the personal association with other people, and affect the decisions respecting business, money, the social and public sides of life.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Scorpio. This position of rising Virgo is very much better and more constructive for progress. The Virgo influence will give a more practical base for study and subsequent action and results will be of a more beneficial nature. The application of knowledge will be more satisfactory and the reaction upon business and finance of greater benefit, despite the adherence to certain fixed views and opinions natural to the Scorpio nature. Even with such influence operating there will be more willingness to examine the views and suggestions.

Mercury in this Sign is extremely favourable from the standpoint of' giving the capacity for the directing of thoughts and ideas towards ends of a definite nature. This position shows a very penetrating mind and a natural aptitude for probing beneath the surface of affairs. Thus, various forms of research work can be taken up to do with mental, physical, mechanical or occult matters.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Sagittarius. Virgo rising is a somewhat contrary position. Hence the liability towards the mind being at cross purposes with itself is intensified. The practical Virgo nature will help to check some of the Sagittarians impulse but it will also restrict the natural desire for freedom of expression. There will be an attempt to superimpose orthodox religious conceptions on to those of a higher thought nature and this will not always prove to be harmonious.

There will be a natural desire for a freedom of expression respecting mental views and conceptions. The executive capacity is enhanced and it is quite possible for an administrative position. There will be contact with interests of a foreign nature and this can, also, be associated with or brought about by, the work or business which is carried out. Sometimes, however, there will be a mental conflict, caused when the more practical, serious and conservative side of the nature clashes with intellectual inclinations for launching out into new directions.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Capricorn. Virgo rising here is much more favourably placed when in Capricorn, for the Earthy nature of the two Signs will help to create harmony and, thus, make for greater progress. There will still be sensitiveness to many things, especially to ridicule, unfair criticism or fault finding on the part of others, but there will be less tendency to brood or become melancholy. More continuity of thought is shown and the expending of effort towards predetermined ends.

This combination is one indicating a much greater capacity for directing the mental powers of discrimination and perception into channels of a business, commercial, financial and political nature. There will be an exceptionally good capacity for planning ahead and for finding necessary ways and means for carrying the plans into action. A marked attempt will be made to be of service to others or to the community generally and yet, whilst service is rendered unstintingly, there will be no hesitation in taking any personal benefit that can be derived from the trend of affairs.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Aquarius. Virgo rising here is another contrary combination. Although bringing a blending of practical effort with ideal conception, it will produce a kind of mental cynicism as the perceptive power of Virgo will increase the capacity to see the faults and weaknesses of others, and this will induce a liability towards thinking that a majority of people are trying to sham affairs and this will, in turn, interfere with friendships and associations.

Showing an attraction towards the more advanced lines of thought and study such as those associated with science and psychology, but where there is a contact with the business side of life, it will draw out the practical tendency rather than the altruistic which is more connected with Gemini.    

This does not imply that there will be no interest in the latter side, but it will be subjugated to the former. Practical results will be desired rather than theory. There will, however, be a good understanding of human nature and this, linked with a grasping of business psychology will help in the over‑all-handling of people and affairs, in the allocating of tasks and the choosing of those capable of carrying out such tasks. The power of analysis will be strong, showing that whilst there will be a making of certain allowances for natural faults and weaknesses, there will be no hesitation in the expressing of criticism in order to bring others up to scratch and thus obtain the best possible results.

Virgo Rising Mercury ruler in Pisces. With Virgo rising, is not so good because of the emotional susceptibility to the speech and actions of others, and to any adverse trend of circumstances. The Virgo inclination towards criticism will express itself in a provocative manner and no allowance will he made for the temperamental faults in others. Nevertheless it is also a helpful position for literary interests, although, in this instance the expression will be associated with the seamy and lurid side of life. This signifies that in certain respects there will be a clash between the reasoning and emotional sides of the nature. The stress of emotion will sometimes swamp the power of forethought and discrimination, but there will always be a fight back and the Virgo nature will make a very definite effort towards the obtaining of mental control.
